About Sprinkler Zones
A sprinkler system is only as good as the water behind it. Every plan here starts from your gpm and your psi.
How a plan is made
The heads go on the lawn head to head: every head throws to the next, so every spot gets water from at least two. Corner heads water a quarter circle, edge heads a half, the rest a full circle. Heads are grouped into zones that use no more than three quarters of your flow, the pipe in every stretch is sized for the water it carries at no more than 5 ft per second, and the pressure is worked out to the last head on each zone, after the backflow preventer, the valve and the pipe.
How it is checked
Before a page is built, every plan is sampled point by point for two-head coverage, every zone is checked against your flow and the heads' pressure, and every pipe against its velocity limit. A yard and water that cannot run a system (rotors on 45 psi, a lawn that would need more than a dozen zones) is not published.
